Spinning metal disks

A significant portion of my life is precariously invested in the microscopic particles on but a few small spinning metal disks. This realization leaves me conflicted between two thoughts:
1) That I must strengthen and protect this investment with more spinning metal disks.
2) That I must reduce my dependence on spinning metal disks.

More spinning metal disks!!!!!!! more more more more! It would be awful if you had a catastrophic hard drive failure and couldn't recover your data- all your art work, movies, pictures, etc. I back up my shit weekly.

Yes, more spinning metal disks indeed. Making backups has been difficult due to the massive size of all my files. I've almost lost everything several times already and that's really scary.

But that's my point, I worry that I'm too emotionally invested in this fragile system. A little technological hiccup could pull the ground right out from under my feet....a devastating blow I would not soon recover from.

That said, I am trying to make everything more secure and reliable. I want to set up a dedicated storage server with several Terabytes. But I need more hard drives and other equipment to do so....and I also gotta pay rent.

Such is life...I'm just crossing my fingers for now.

holy moly, several TB?!?!? I can't believe your personal stuff takes up that much space. . .I know several large networks that have TB set up and don't come close to using all the space. It's much easier for ppl like me w/small stuff :-) less than 100GB

I think unless you withdraw from society and go to like an Amish style lifestyle, there is no way to get away from being so invested in technology. But I don't mind it. After all, I scored as Kip on the "which Napoleon Dynamite character are you?" quiz.

"but I love technologyyy. . ."
